Portfolio Project Instructions
Overview:
This course is a good introduction into human behaviors within organizations. To get a little deeper
into the course, you will select an area of interest, further explore it by reviewing some published
literature, and then construct a scholarly paper and submit for this course. You may choose one of
the topics from the list below. However, if you prefer a topic not on the list, you may submit the
topic of interest and a rough outline to me for approval before you proceed.
Your topic for the project could be one of the following:(Increasing motivation in healthcare-sample Essay)

o Teams and Team Building
o Being a Change Agent
o Stress Management/Prevention in the Workplace
How to Start:
o Once you have your topic, do some literature research using the BSN library website for
published journal articles that are relevant to your topic to see what is out there. Reviewing
some literature will give you some ideas about the direction of your paper and what to

o Start developing an outline and make sure that your outline follows/covers all the sections
required in the specific instructions for the body of the paper (see the Project Grading Scale).
o Select the journal articles to use to substantiate your paper. Then, begin your writing.
Specific Instructions for the Format:
1. Do not use the first pronoun, such as I, my, me, unless you are asked specifically for your
personal viewpoints.
2. Your paper should not be shorter than 3 pages but no longer 6 pages in length (excluding the
title page and the reference page), double spaced, with 1” margins and font size of either 11
or 12.
3. Follow strictly the correct APA format and style, both in in-text citations and reference list.
Consult the APA Manual (7th ed.), APA Style Guide to e-References (7th ed.), and/or the APA
Format and Style Guide if necessary.

4. Use correct grammar, spellings, and punctuations throughout the paper.
5. Begin your paper with a title page with a Running head and format that is in the APA format
but slightly modified for use with assignments submitted in this program that includes the
type of assignment (paper), course number and name, program, academic year, semester,
institution.
The Sample Title Page containing an example of the title page with explanations of a format
of main document, and the instructions on how to create the title page are provided under
the Other Resources module. I strongly recommend you review them. Strictly follow the
format on this title page and the main document. Remember to have a Running head and

6. Number all pages, including the reference page. Begin your reference list on a new page.
7. The references must also be double spaced, each of which must have a hanging indent. See
p. 58-59 in the APA manual for the overall look of the references.
8. Provide an appropriate heading for each section of your paper. Level of headings to use for
the paper is explained in the Sample Title Page. Do not write and submit a paper without
headings. The sections indicated in the assignment’s grading scale can be used as a guide for
the headings and how to organize your paper.
9. Save your assignment in a MS Word (.doc) or PDF for submission.
Specific Instructions for the Body of the Paper:
1. Your paper will consist of the following sections:
o Introduction – Introduce your area/topic/issue of interest and what it is about.
o Significance of the topic/issue –
o Discuss why this issue/topic of your choice is important to organizations and/or
to people who work in them.
o Include a situation or example that become an issue or problematic to
organization or employees, requiring an intervention in order to solve the
issue/problem. The situation or example here is not a case study or scenario. It
should be brief and serve as an overview or example of the problem or issue that
demonstrates the significance of the issue if nothing is done to resolve it.
o Literature Review – Review a minimum of 2 published journal articles obtained from

o Your chosen journal articles to review here must be relevant to your chosen
topic and situation described in the previous section
o The aspects of the reviewed articles in this section depends on the direction of
your paper and should have a connection to the next section.
o Case Scenario – Create your own scenario or choose one of the additionally provided
case studies posted under this module. You may not reuse the scenarios that you have
used before in any course assignments, including the discussion board postings.

For the case scenario in this paper, you will —
 Summarize the case or describe your scenario with key elements sufficient to
demonstrate the issue/problem that is in need of intervention. If you use a case
study provided in the course, do not copy and paste the entire case to your
paper.
 Briefly identify issue(s)/problem(s) from your case study or scenario above
 Propose two (2) possible interventions, preferably from the management/
organizational standpoints that could be used to resolve the issue/problem
identified earlier. These two proposed interventions should be substantiated by
literature.
 Choose one of the two proposed interventions above and provide rationale for
making the choice, as opposed to the other one.
o Conclusion
2. Provide a minimum of four (4) references.
o Three (3) must be articles from peer-reviewed journals.
o All references must be within the last 5years.
o All references must be cited both in-text and on the reference list using the correct APA
format. You may use your course textbook as one of your references. Make sure you
reference it correctly both in text and in the reference list.
Keep in mind that this paper is only 3-6 pages long and double spaced. Therefore, organize your
paper nicely so that it covers all the required section and also flows well. Remember to write

You are able to log on to the BSN library website from anywhere to gain access to our library
databases, such as CINAHL, MEDLINE, PsychINFO, and OVID. Most journal articles on these
databases are available in full-texts and downloadable. That means you can do as many searches
and save as many journal articles to your computer as you wish with no costs. The instructions for
how to do literature search using library databases are posted in the Course Information module.

Submission & Due Date
o Submit your portfolio project as an attachment in a Word or a PDF through a drop box
located in the Portfolio Project module
o The due date is the last day of week 9 – Sunday July 16 @ 11:59 pm. After this date and time,
the drop box will become inaccessible for submission. Any submissions past this date and
time will not be accepted through other means and a zero will be assigned for the project.

Iris Jones is the Associate Vice President of a large chain pharmaceutical company based in the
