Discussion: Using the Walden Library
“Implementation of exercise therapy in kidney failure” is the title of the scholarly publication I chose for the current discussion. It was reviewed by other experts in the field of nursing, and I chose it because it relates to my area of expertise and is of particular interest to me.
This article is of utmost importance to me as a health practitioner because I have seen patients suffering from kidney failure while working in the telemetry unit. The article highlights how exercise treatment ought to be extensively promoted to improve function and quality of life in patients (Zui Chih Teo et al., 2022) who are undergoing dialysis. Because of this, reading this article will help me understand the effective interventions that can be administered to patients with kidney failure.
Walden University library offers various databases to search for a particular peer-reviewed article of interest. I used the “CINAHL Plus with Full Text” database to search for the article mentioned above. This database comprises an extensive collection of journals and e-books on many nursing and allied health topics (Walden University Library, n.d.).
Though I could locate an article related to my area of practice, I experienced various difficulties while searching this article. When I accessed the Walden library, I was directed to type a topic of interest. I did this, but many articles were available, and I could not establish which peer-reviewed article would be credible for the current discussion. However, I realized that the platform had functions that would assist me in refining the results. I did this, and in the end, I narrowed the search, and I was able to obtain the relevant article I wanted.
I can attest that this database will be helpful to my colleagues. This is because that database offers an extensive collection of journals and e-books on many nursing and allied health topics. I would recommend the database due to its credibility.
The database provides a wide range of peer-reviewed articles on various topics that peers have evaluated in the medical field. In addition, direct knowledge can be obtained from this database, and I believe that the database offers a concise way to find scholarly articles. Various guidelines are provided in this database to ensure one will narrow the topic to get the most relevant article (s).

As an Intensive care charge nurse, I can only think about Covid 19 infection. However, Covid 19 affected all of us worldwide. A tiny virus completely changes living styles and daily routines from another side of the world. After a long thought, I came up with the topic of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome in Adults that I can relate to my area of expertise.
The next step was to find a good article in a database. After a long search, I found an article that improves outcomes over time for adult COVID-19 patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome or acute respiratory failure. (Yeates, E. O.et al.,2021). After reading this article, I understood the importance of early oxygenation, early prone positioning, and medications like Remedesivir and corticosteroids to reduce mechanical ventilation rates.
I found this above article in the Walden library in Proquest Health and Allied Health Database. This database has many books, articles, journals, and magazines on various nursing and allied health topics (Walden University Library, n.d).
However, it is hard if you don’t use the correct keywords to find the articles. Often I find that when I search general keywords, I have an overwhelming amount of results that do not always meet the criteria of what I am looking for. Once I got into the article that pertains to my topic, I found it time-consuming to get to the relevant points that summarize the main subject. For that, I found using the “find” button for keywords helped me narrow down the sentences that could help me with the article.
Once I got the handle on properly using tutorial resources available in the database, I could search for my topic efficiently. I found it was much easier than trying to navigate through library databases that I was previously familiar with. If my colleagues take the time to familiarize themselves with the search parameters, they should find it more feasible.
Students should be able to understand the database commands and search terminology. If they do not have good searching skills, they may be unable to effectively use the database to search and find the relevant information they want.(Soltani, S., & Nikou, S. 2020).
I would recommend this database to my fellow students because various guidelines are provided in this database to ensure one can narrow their topic to get the most relevant articles. These databases contain scholarly and peer-reviewed articles written by credible authors, such as journalists, researchers, and experts in their field. Since databases provide powerful search tools for narrowing results, users can quickly find the information they need.
