Moral Criticisms of the Market Essay Example:Solution

I agree with Ewert’s criticism of the market. Ewert points out that the current economic situation violates the moral principles of society. Human beings have adopted a secular approach to pursue their economic needs. According to Ewert (1989), the rise and advancement of capitalism is the critical factor showing the world’s secular nature, leading to the erosion of society’s moral principles.

I agree with the statement that capitalism has led to economic selfishness. The moral code of conduct in society requires that people consider their fellow human beings and engage in activities that benefit all. However, this is impossible in a capitalistic world that sees everyone interested in making personal economic gains even if it involves using illegal approaches.

The argument on dehumanizing people is also right. The moral principles of life require that every human being be treated in a dignified manner. Dignity entails respecting people and subjecting them to practices which any other human being will find okay. However, this is not the case with capitalism (Brooks, 2012). Human beings’ selfish desires make them subject other people to inhumane work conditions to expand their wealth. Examples include making people work for long hours to boost production.

Likewise, I perceive oppressing the weak as a total disregard for the moral principles of life. It denies people the opportunity to be others’ keepers and promoting the general welfare of society. The moral codes are violated in cases where the rich and business people use their powers to promote their desires without thinking about their subject’s welfare, for instance, making salary cuts without a reason to realize more profit.
