Good work! Thank you for discussing comprehensive, integrated psychiatry assessment for children and adolescents. I support your claim that a good rapport between patients and practitioners creates a therapeutic alliance to effectively assess, diagnose, and treat mental health conditions. Although the social worker-maintained eye contact and empathized with the patient, the proper introduction was vital to building trust and rapport during the session. Tony’s self-harm and suicidal thoughts should have significant concerns (Integrated Psychiatry Assessment-Nursing Paper Examples).

Moreover, the social worker should have determined Tony’s intent and plan for suicide. The practitioner should have also determined suicide-precipitating factors such as family arguments. The practitioner should have asked some potential questions, “Do you have any intentions to harm yourself or others” or “How do you plan to harm yourself.” The questions would have justified the need to admit the patient to a mental health facility for his safety and that of others.

Comprehensive psychiatry assessments are instrumental in setting goals to optimize patients’ functioning. In addition, offering appropriate interventions that meet the patients’ multiple and complex needs. Appropriate treatment goals entail enhancing patients’ problem-solving, developmental, and coping abilities (Integrated Psychiatry Assessment-Nursing Paper Examples).

Furthermore, providing resources that promote healing and recovery while promoting community entry and acceptance after recovery (Cook‐Darzens & Duclos, 2022). Interpersonal collaboration between providers, patients, their families, and caregivers is important. Moreover, to create acceptable interventions, thus improving compliance and patient outcomes (Integrated Psychiatry Assessment-Nursing Paper Examples).

Great post! Thank you for sharing your discussion, as it was informative and engaging. I agree that building rapport is one of the main strategies for building a therapeutic alliance, trust, and confidence while dealing with children and adolescents. I support that Multisystemic and play therapy are suitable intervention strategies for children and adolescents with mental health problems. In addition, the social worker did well by interviewing the patient in a private and safe environment. The interview took place quietly and privately, thus improving the patient’s concentration and confidentiality.

The practitioner was outstanding as she enquired about Tony’s relationship status, school life, history of drug abuse, and hobbies/life interests that can be used as potential markers for depression. In this case, Tony’s heartbreak may have been one of the causes of mental problems that made him sad, angry, and lose interest in school and the basketball games he initially enjoyed. Although the practitioner should have elaborated on the reasons for referral to the patient, she should have also prioritized the chest pain, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts that could be detrimental (Integrated Psychiatry Assessment-Nursing Paper Examples).

For example, the practitioner should have determined potential intent and plan to harm himself and others. The Reynolds Adolescent Depression Scale (RADS) [13] is one of the symptom-rating scales that could be used to determine somatic, cognitive, interpersonal, and psychomotor concerns. However, a comprehensive psychiatry assessment should also determine the patient’s willingness and attitude toward help and compliance with treatment for improved outcomes (Matsuzawa et al., 2019) (Integrated Psychiatry Assessment-Nursing Paper Examples).
