According to Brown et al. (2017), one of the best practices to improve cardiovascular health among African Americans is to use civic engagement to prove effective. These women found it appealing and acceptable. At a personal level, I would engage patients in hypertension self-management strategies using the globally accepted hypertension practice guidelines. These guidelines include hypertension diagnostic techniques, identifying the risk factors, understanding hypertension–mediated organ damage, and the lifestyle modifications the patient should consider (Unger et al., 2020). The patient should also know hypertensive disorders during pregnancy and the interventions available to her. These disorders are like pre-eclampsia and proteinuria with and without pathological edema (Shobo et al., 2020).
