Minerals like iron serve various purposes. Iron increases a child’s capacity for learning by assisting red blood cells in transporting oxygen throughout the body (National Institutes of Health, 2022). Iron maintains healthy connective tissue and muscle metabolism since it is a part of myoglobin, another protein that transports oxygen (Nutrition-Related Disorder-Nursing Paper Examples).

In addition, iron is required for hormone synthesis, cellular health, neurological development, and physical growth. Heme and nonheme are the two primary types of dietary iron. Unlike meat, seafood, and poultry, which all contain heme and nonheme iron, plants, and meals enriched with iron solely contain nonheme iron. In Western countries, heme iron is created when iron and protoporphyrin IX mix, making up 10% to 15% of total iron consumption (National Institutes of Health, 2022). I liked your discussion for its clarity and comprehensiveness. You selected cancer-related cachexia, which is interesting because I have rarely interacted with patients reporting this illness. According to the type of illness and how well the patient responds to cancer treatment, cachexia is thought to affect up to 80% of people with advanced cancer (National Cancer Institute, 2021) (Nutrition-Related Disorder-Nursing Paper Examples).

Additionally, it is believed to be a direct factor in up to 30% of cancer fatalities, sometimes due to cardiac or respiratory failure brought on by muscle loss (National Cancer Institute, 2021). In its most extreme form, cachexia’s physical degeneration can leave a person weak and exhausted, unable or reluctant to eat, and with startling physical changes. For many, dealing with these issues can make simple things like going to the grocery store, visiting a friend for coffee, or having a bath seem impossible. Thank you for sharing a robust and insightful discussion. Your selection and discussion of diabetes mellitus type 2 is intriguing, and I would like to add to the discussion. A specific form of malnutrition is both the cause and the effect of non-insulin-dependent diabetes, which has overnutrition as its pathogenesis. Even though every person who fails to consume enough and in a balanced way gets the energy they need, if the patient does not get enough of the right macro- and micronutrients, they are considered malnourished.

Additionally, diabetic gastroparesis and its consequences lead to malnutrition. Patients are at risk for malnutrition due to changes in their food habits, limited mobility, socioeconomic inequalities, social isolation, and diabetes comorbidity and treatment plans. The information can help DNP-prepared nurses support patients in managing type 2 diabetes. Your discussion is educative and insightful. I agree that nutrition is a facilitating element in preventing and managing multiple diseases. In addition to being a crucial part of the healthcare delivery system, nutrition is essential in preserving people’s health and well-being. An individual’s dietary status influences clinical outcomes. Six categories, carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals, vitamins, and water, classify essential nutrients. Healthy people’s nutritional needs vary depending on several variables, including age, sex, and exercise.

As a result, recommended dietary intakes differ for each group of people (Kesari & Noel, 2022). I agree that the impact of dietary intervention on the pathogenesis, management, and outcomes of CHF patients is becoming increasingly recognized. Dietary approaches to stop hypertension (DASH), which promote a heart-healthy diet, are crucial for hypertension prevention and therapy (Nutrition-Related Disorder-Nursing Paper Examples).
