PICOT-D Question  Among IPV victims, how does the implementation of a hospital-based advocacy intervention compared with current practice affect reported IPV cases and re-injury rates within a 12-week period when looking at an individual’s self-report and the standardized frequency of re-injury rates?(Intimate Partner Violence Patients Comprehensive Nursing Essay Example)
Problem StatementHalliwell et al. (2019) explore hospital-based advocacy intervention effectiveness in addressing IPV and measures associated with IPV, including cessation of abuse, safety of hospital survivors, and hospital survivor cost. Olson et al. (2022) investigate hospital-based intimate partner violence programs’ effectiveness in addressing the surge of IPV and domestic violence during COVID-19. Bonne et al. (2022) explore factors impacting the success of hospital-based violence intervention programs (HVIPs) and the opportunities available to expand HVIPs. It is not known if the implementation of hospital-based advocacy intervention would impact reported IPV cases and re-injury rates among IPV victims. This patient population tends to be underdiagnosed and undertreated because of the trauma associated with IPV, leading to underreporting and underdocumentation of the cases. It is anticipated that positive outcomes, including reduced IPV cases, re-injury rates, abuse cessation, and increased hospital survivors or increased IPV identification, can be achieved when hospitals work closely with survivors and community-based services and other resources addressing IPV and domestic violence.(Intimate Partner Violence Patients Comprehensive Nursing Essay Example)
Purpose StatementThe purpose of this quality improvement project is to determine if the implementation of the hospital-based advocacy intervention would impact reported IPV cases and re-injury rates among IPV victims. The project was piloted over a 12-week period in an urban primary care setting. The hospital-based advocacy intervention is a hospital-based IPV program that involves the hospital working closely with survivors and community-based services that seek to offer support and link victims to hospital and community-based resources addressing IPV. Associated services include linking victims with independent domestic violence advisors, comprehensive follow-up and case management, crisis and counseling support, and robust trauma-related screening.(Intimate Partner Violence Patients Comprehensive Nursing Essay Example)
