Social media plays a significant role in the lives of nurses in both their professional and personal lives. Additionally, social media is now considered a mainstream part of the process for recruiting and hiring candidates. Inappropriate or unethical conduct on social media can create legal problems for nurses as well as the field of nursing.

Login to all social media sites in which you engage. Review your profile, pictures, and posts. Based on the professional standards of nursing, identify items that would be considered unprofessional and potentially detrimental to your career and that negatively impact the reputation of the nursing field. professionalism and social media in the 21st century

In 500-750 words, summarize the findings of your review. Include the following:

1. Describe the posts or conversations in which you have engaged that might be considered inappropriate based on the professional standards of nursing.
2. Discuss why nurses have a responsibility to uphold a standard of conduct consistent with the standards governing the profession of nursing at work and in their personal lives. Include a discussion of how personal conduct can violate HIPAA or be considered unethical or unprofessional. Provide an example of each to support your answer.

GCU policy requires the following in regards to substantive post:

This online course requires the following:

• Initial responses to the DQ’s on their respective due dates (1 response per DQ).
• 6 Substantive follow up replies to classmates over three separate days (2 per day).

This is a total of 8 posts per week. You may reply more, but are only obligated to the 6 mandatory substantive classmate responses.

In weeks 1 & 2, you will have a 3rd DQ. You are still required to have 6 substantive peer replies in weeks 1 & 2 also.

In regards to References/Citations, your INITIAL answers to the DQ’s MUST be referenced in order to receive full credit. I do not mind “how many” references you have, as long as you have 1.

Your substantive PEER replies DO NOT need to be referenced, UNLESS you are quoting or citing something of importance from another work, other than your own.

Your Initial DQ responses should be long enough to answer the question fully, usually about 2-3 cited paragraphs (each paragraph with a minimum of 3-5 sentences).

Your substantive responses to your classmates should stimulate conversation and really be a solid response. Replies such as, “Good post” or “I agree” are not substantive and will not receive credit. The substantive response your classmates should really add value to the conversation and stimulate further discussion.
