Methadone and buprenorphine are highly recommended to help in substance detoxification and promote the overall health outcomes of affected individuals. Methadone works by altering how the nervous system and brain respond to pain, specifically pain associated with withdrawal.

On the other hand, buprenorphine replaces opioids that have occupied the brain and bind the receptors to ensure that other opioids do not occupy them. However, both medications are effective in treating opioid use disorders.
