Evidence-Based Practice and Scholarly Writing-Nursing Paper Examples

Evidence-Based Practice-1

Identifying the appropriate evidence for support, peer-reviewed and scholarly sources, is the most challenging standard of scholarly writing. From my previous writing experience, I have developed proficiency in writing in APA style, paraphrasing, and adequately citing authors, which are easy to do with practice. However, every assignment has different requirements regarding the type of evidence required and where to obtain the information (Evidence-Based Practice-1).

Collecting evidence is challenging because evidence-based practice and scholarly writing require using the best available evidence. Identifying appropriate evidence is a process to ensure the evidence collected helps address the research problem or issue (University of Maryland Global Campus, 2022). This step is vital because the quality of evidence shapes the paper considerably. I have to decide on the evidence to collect based on the research issue, purpose, audience, and methodology. The evidence has to be accurate and convincing to achieve the logos of the paper (Evidence-Based Practice-1).

The information on the internet regarding a particular topic is tremendous and readily available. However, internet sources are not recommended when they narrow down to writing a scholarly paper. I have to search in appropriate databases such as CINAHL, PubMed, MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar for peer-reviewed and scholarly articles or sources that will help provide scientific and concrete evidence, enhancing the validity, credibility, and convincing power of the argument presented (Leite et al., 2019).

In addition to finding scholarly and peer-reviewed sources, I also have to review and synthesize the articles collected to determine those offering the best available evidence. I must check the sources’ currency, reliability, validity, authority, and relevance (Lingard, 2018). These aspects strengthen my research paper and enhance its credibility. Finally, the sources must be analyzed to determine whether they help address the identified research gap and align with the paper’s findings and recommendations to ensure consistency. The process is robust, challenging, and tedious, but when done correctly, it helps enhance the quality of the research paper (Evidence-Based Practice-1).

Hi,

Thank you for an elaborative and exciting discussion. Formatting is often a challenge when writing a scholarly paper. I agree that under the BSN program, students must conduct research, write essays, and develop research papers addressing practice problems. Hence, the need to understand scholarly writing, which includes standard formats like APA, MLA, and AMA (Evidence-Based Practice-1).

Please familiarize yourself with the other formatting standards to expand your knowledge and skills in scholarly writing. Practice makes perfect, and if you practice more, the APA formatting will be easy, enhancing your scholarly writing and the quality of your research papers and essays (Purdue University, 2022). There are multiple resources online that can simplify your efforts toward perfecting APA style formatting. Some databases like PubMed and Google Scholar have citation generators for different formats, which makes your work easier.

Hello,

Thank you for the insights. I can relate to data gathering and evidence presentation to convince the reader that your argument is right and well-supported. Data gathering or evidence collection is an essential step in scholarly writing. It helps find the best available evidence to support your claim and increases the credibility, validity, and reliability of your argument or research finding (University of Maryland Global Campus, 2022) (Evidence-Based Practice-1).

I agree that some topics lack current research, and most literature pieces are ten years or older. When analyzing and synthesizing evidence, sources need to be current, that is, five years or less. Finding adequate sources that support your claim or directly relate to your research problem is also challenging. Evidence collection requires patients, developing a search strategy, and conducting a thorough search. More so, on multiple databases to increase the probability of finding appropriate sources (Evidence-Based Practice-1).

Hi,

Thank you for an informative and elaborative discussion. Indeed identifying appropriate evidence is challenging, and I sometimes struggle, especially when a topic is recent and still under investigation or when a topic lacks current evidence support and most sources are older than ten years. When analyzing and synthesizing sources, I agree that you need to determine a source’s reliability, validity, credibility, relevance, currency, and authority (Leite et al., 2019). T

he source should also relate to the research topic or problem and help enhance the credibility of your research findings. Multiple databases publish scholarly and peer-reviewed articles, including Google Scholar, PubMed, MEDLINE, and Cochrane Library. Regarding APA formatting and proper citation, I prefer databases with citation generators because they make work easier (Evidence-Based Practice-1).
