Simply said, the treatment and advocacy processes are centered around the client’s goals. Therefore, advocating for a patient with differing values requires greater cultural sensitivity and respect for ethical principles of autonomy, nonmaleficence, beneficence, justice, fidelity, and veracity. Christianity aims to make a positive difference in the community and individuals. A Christian healthcare provider’s focus would be promoting a person’s health and wellness by adopting the most appropriate and practical approaches (GCU, 2019). However, the Bible also stresses the importance of loving the enemy and neighbor as yourself and treating people with inherent dignity and respect. Therefore, adopting the patient’s values to inform treatment and genetic decisions entails upholding their dignity and right to autonomous decision-making.
