The purpose of the practicum is to enhance knowledge, skills, and self-efficacy regarding the various dimensions of health or wellness, including physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, environmental, financial, and social. The practicum setting integrates social work and public health values and competencies to ensure students approach patient programs via a holistic, person-in-environment viewpoint and promote health and general wellness to help patients achieve their ultimate goals. The first two weeks have been busy, and most of the time was spent adapting to the practicum setting and understanding roles and modes of operations and workflows. I also spent time familiarizing myself with co-workers and getting to understand the patients and the type of services primarily offered at the facility. Some of the practicum activities include conducting patient assessment and education, collecting data from patient assessment and education, analyzing data from the assessments and education, contributing to program-specific research, performing program process evaluation, analyzing local populations and the epidemiological data, and analyzing the overall wellness of the patients at the practicum setting. I was involved in strategizing with other staff members and patients to generate models that modify clinical processes to enhance patient experience and increase patient retention. Organizations use strategic planning to determine their ultimate objectives and lay out a plan of action for achieving those objectives. A strategic plan typically enables companies to pinpoint potential obstacles to achieving goals and offer solutions. The organization’s purpose in the industry or the world is in the mission statement. The organization’s primary industries or target consumers, major products or services, and ways it differs from competitors are typically included in the mission statement. There should be a section on aims and objectives in every strategic plan. Organizations can identify and list strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats by doing a SWOT analysis. This is crucial because it enables organizations to identify potential obstacles to reaching their objectives and what is required to overcome them. Action plans include tactics for accomplishing both short- and long-term objectives, as well as for overcoming obstacles. Key performance indicators, or KPIs, are quantifiable elements that enable businesses to monitor the development of certain initiatives in relation to their objectives. Practicum Project Preparation

Managing Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) in the Emergency Department 

Intimate partner violence (IPV) refers to a pattern of violent or controlling behavior committed by a person who has or has had a close relationship with another person. Injury, psychological abuse, forced social isolation, intimidation, threat-making, and stalking are all examples of IPV. In the United States, more than one-third of women and one-fourth of men may experience physical violence, threats, or rape by a partner during their lifetimes, making IPV one of the few health problems that have such a broad impact on so many individuals (Choo & Houry, 2017). The practicum project seeks to identify interventions to manage IPV identified or reported in the emergency room to prevent future violence. It is supported by the IPV policy to be implemented in the practicum setting. The short-term objective is to increase the number of identified and reported IPV cases because most can be overlooked. Evidence

I have engaged in discussion with the preceptor regarding the IPV policy because of the increased concern about the health effects of IPV and the need for increased healthcare providers’ involvement in addressing the issue. According to Patra (2018), IPV claims millions of lives every year across the world, infringing fundamental human rights and leading to severe physical and mental health consequences that affect the lives of those close to the victims. The first point of contact between victims and healthcare providers is the ED.
