DQ1 Levels of Evidence in Research-Nursing Paper Examples

Research articles that do not adhere to the standards outlined in the “Levels of Evidence in Research” and the “Criteria for Acceptable Research” documents cannot be used to support claims made in the DPI Project because they don’t meet the strict requirements for objectivity and excellence outlined in those documents. The Criteria for Acceptable Research document outlines the fundamental elements of high-quality research, such as a clear research question, appropriate sample size, valid and reliable measures, appropriate data analysis, and ethical considerations. Furthermore, the Levels of Evidence in Research document offers a hierarchical structure of study designs.

Primary research articles are original research studies that generate new data and information. Consequently, two primary research articles that demonstrate support for a proposed nursing practice problem. In addition, meet the criteria for acceptable research. Firstly, Maloney, J., Moriarty, H., & Maguire et al., 2019), ‘The effectiveness of mindfulness-based stress reduction on nurse stress and burnout’. Hence, this systematic review examines the effectiveness of mindfulness-based stress reduction on nurse stress and burnout.

The study meets the criteria for acceptable research as it has a clear research question, an appropriate sample size, and a thorough literature search. The study also uses validated measures and appropriate statistical analysis. Secondly, Gaspardo et al, 2019, “Intensive care nurses’ knowledge and practice of oral care: a questionnaire survey”. Consequently, this article investigates intensive care nurses’ knowledge and practice of oral care. More so, which is a critical aspect of preventing ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) in critically ill patients. Furthermore, the study uses a cross-sectional design and a self-administered questionnaire to collect data from 246 intensive care nurses in Brazil. Subsequently, the results show that the nurses had inadequate knowledge and practice of oral care. Moreover, which highlights the need for educational interventions to improve their competence in this area.

This article is considered a primary research article because it uses original data to answer a research question and reports its findings in a structured format. It supports the nursing practice problem of improving oral care practices among intensive care nurses to prevent VAP (Levels of Evidence in Research).

The studies you have chosen to support your project are primary research, meaning that they are original studies that directly report the researcher’s findings. Simoneau et al.’s study showed that a school nurse-led asthma program improved school attendance for asthma students. Young et al.’s study utilized a multi-level approach, including the school nurse, to address chronic absenteeism and found that it was a cost-effective method (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2022). Both studies demonstrated the effectiveness of involving school nurses in addressing health-related absenteeism, making them valuable resources for your project.

It is worth noting that while primary research is valuable, it is also important to consider systematic reviews and meta-analyses, which compile and analyze the results of multiple studies to provide a comprehensive summary of the evidence. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses are considered the highest level of evidence and can provide more robust and reliable findings (Levels of Evidence in Research).
