What is the age of the individual being interviewed? What is the

relationship of the individual to you? How long have they had the

disorder?

– Patient P. is one of the resident in the independent senior facility

I am currently working at. She is 77 years old. She has lived

with lupus for 15 years.(Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Comprehensive Nursing Paper Example)

2. What clinical manifestations of the disorder does the individual

experience? How does it compare to what you discovered in your

resources?

– The clinical manifestation that P. experiences are fatigue,

drawsy, imbalancement which causes her to fall, inflammation

in her lower extremities. Her conditions compared to what I

discovered about lupus are pretty much the same.(Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Comprehensive Nursing Paper Example)

3. What complications of the disorder does the individual experience?

How does this compare to what you discovered in your resources?

– The complications that P. experience are fatigue, apnea, bladder

issues that may lead to kidney infection.(Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Comprehensive Nursing Paper Example)

4. What other medical conditions/disorders has the individual been

diagnosed with? Do their other medical conditions have any effect

on the chosen disorder?

– She was previously diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism.

Unfortunately during her youth, diagnosing a person with lupus

was quite different. Patient P said that her doctors would not

even test her for lupus because she didn’t fit into the

demographic of the people who genetically get lupus. She said

that about 15 years ago, she was officially diagnosed with SLE

type of lupus. Her lupus moves is the type that can move around

in the body effecting other organs. She said that her other

medical conditions such as having enlarged red blood cells has

an effect on her lupus. She feels fatigue that effects her whole

body, apnea, and constant want to empty her bladder.(Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Comprehensive Nursing Paper Example)

5. How does the disease affect the individual’s daily living/activities?

(repeat hospitalizations, has to take a lot of meds, any activity

restrictions, a lot of appointments?)

– She is constantly careful and is watching out for her symptoms

because when the triggers arrive, they make her too tired to take

care of her self. She feels too tired to do any of her daily livings

such as eating and getting out of bed. She feels lethargic so

much so that she can’t focus. She also experiences minor

dementia.(Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Comprehensive Nursing Paper Example)

6. How does the disease/disorder affect the individual’s outlook on

life? (Feel like a burden to family, do they have good family

support, feel hopeless, optimistic, good coping mechanisms?)

– She feels like she needs to stay away from people so she doesn’t

bother them. She doesn’t have much family support. She has

gotten married and been divorced but she didn’t have any

children. Since she lives in this independent living senior

homes, she is able to cope with her lupus because she has other

residents and facility managers looking out for her as well. She

understands that its something she has to live with but she

doesn’t like the symptoms she feels. However, she is a cheerful

individual. She also gets support from the senior home

managments such as activities coordinators who make a weekly

medical oppointment folder which has a sign up sheet for drop

off and pick up for her and other residents to their medical

oppointments. This type of support system is truly helpful for

her.(Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Comprehensive Nursing Paper Example)

7. What did you learn from interviewing the individual?

Reference

Murphy G, Isenberg DA.
