Solution:The Role of the DNP-Prepared Nurse Leader
Part 1
DNP-prepared nurses have reached the highest level of education in the nursing field, gaining leadership competencies to lead healthcare systems. DNP-prepared nurse leaders are integral in implementing evidence-based practice, quality improvement, organizational change, and systems leadership within the healthcare system. DNP-prepared nurse leaders are sufficiently prepared to address the increasing complexity of the healthcare system and the multiple challenges facing the system (Spring Arbor University, 2023). Their high-level knowledge, experience, and credentials are essential in shaping the healthcare system’s future. Integrating leadership competencies and roles acquired from the DNP program requires collaboration with other healthcare staff, encouraging shared decision-making, and establishing a sense of teamwork toward common goals. I also intend to continuously motivate the team to improve quality and productivity, innovate workflows, think creatively and critically, and deliver safe and compassionate care. Additionally, I plan to mentor and teach others as a DNP-prepared nurse leader. A successful professional identity formation requires a combination of education, professional training, and personality to achieve healthcare systems leadership positions.
Part 2: Students Implementing at the Practicum Site
Practice Question
For adults with a history of Schizophrenia (P) in the inpatient setting, does the implementation of technology with motivational interviewing (I), compared with current practice (C), impact medication non-adherence (O) in 8-10 weeks (T)?
Project Implementation Progress
The project implementation is progressing according to plan, thanks to all stakeholders’ collaboration, especially the patients. Successful implementation of motivational interviewing relies widely on the continued involvement of participants. The project team successfully used motivational interviewing in 60% of the 42 remaining patients out of the initial 50 who provided consent to participate in the study. Eight participants have withdrawn from the study, citing various reasons, including medical complications, family issues, and time constraints. It has been the biggest challenge because it is difficult to predict how many participants will be involved by the end of the project. The project team is comprised of healthcare providers in the practice setting. Therefore, sometimes a commitment conflict arises between serving typical workplace duties and engaging in project activities, considering how busy the practice site is. However, we have managed to balance the two roles to the best of our ability, hoping to keep things moving in the right direction to ensure the project remains within time constraints.
Leadership Style
I am the initiator of the project, and I employ a transformational leadership style, which, according to Zhao et al. (2021), involves serving as a positive role model for the project team. I maintain high commitment levels to encourage project team members to do the same to achieve positive outcomes. I challenge the team to execute by empowering them to do their best. I have aligned team members and their areas of specialization to create optimal success conditions. This leadership style has been integral in the successful implementation of the project so far, implying congruence with the stakeholder team. The aim is to create valuable and positive change and encourage leadership in others to help meet project goals and objectives.

Practice Question in PICOT Format
In overweight adult patients in a primary care clinic, what is the impact of implementing the American Heart Association Diet and Lifestyle recommendations, compared to standard care, on body weight in 8-10 weeks?
· What creative solutions can address the barriers and/or optimize the facilitators? You are receiving pushback and resistance from the frontline staff. You can share briefly what you hear on the front lines from nurses as they are doing their best to cope with the pandemic. How will you address this?
(Answer)…
· You continue to conduct your formative evaluation for intervention fidelity and provide feedback. What are you learning about project implementation?
(Answer)…
· Are there reminders or practice prompts you can develop and provide at this time to support intervention fidelity? If so, what are the reminders or practice prompts and how do you believe they can help?
To support intervention, fidelity, frequent patient contact, encouragement, and education to the patients are needed. I will use verbal and written learning materials that will be provided as a handout, sent by email, discussed in person during meetings, and by phone calls to the participants. (Continue)…
· In your simulated case study project, are you able to collect the data you need? If not, what are the barriers, and what do you need to do to ensure that you will have the data to evaluate the success of the project implementation? Can the data be more easily documented and/or obtained?
Pre-implementation and post-implementation body weight measurements of participants will be collected in a private setting using the same scale that is calibrated every week. The data collection for the project will be obtained by reviewing patients’ charts and tracking the Fitbit app data that reflect the calorie intake and activity entered by each participant. Potential barriers include participants forgetting to input their data to the tracking app and others lacking proper mobile access. The challenges can be addressed by making patient reminders and being available to answer questions daily. (continue)…
