This paper describes strengths and opportunities for improvement after the pre-test for the national certification examination, set SMART goals and associated tasks, and a timeline to guide my success in the national certification examination. Strengths and Opportunities for Improvement

One of my major strengths is the strong scientific research I gained during the RN program. Research skills allow me to use evidence-based practice to translate research into clinical practice (Bonner et al., 2019). I am also well-versed in pharmacology and physical psychiatry assessment of the adult population. I have gained advanced practice knowledge, skills, and competency as an RN in physical examination, patient interviewing to obtain required history, altered mental states, intoxication, and withdrawal. However, I need improvements in pathophysiology, neuroanatomy, and neurophysiology. One strategy to improve my skills and competency to work with children and adolescents is learning and understanding psychometric assessment tools such as the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) scale and HAXACO required in diagnosis (Thapar et al., 2015). I have a challenge in distinguishing disorders such as ADHD and depression. However, my preceptor has been fundamental in helping me understand and distinguish the signs and symptoms of the various disorders. Although I thought I had weaknesses in areas such as psychotherapy, I performed well in the pre-test and will need to work on minor issues. I have the confidence when dealing with ethical and legal issues. Most ethical and legal issues are relatively the same in the medical field. Goal 1: To follow up on each weekly assignment by the end of the 11-week quarter

            I can measure my progress by passing my National Certification Examination to become a PMHNP. One strategy I can use is measuring my process goals and required tasks. In this case, I will measure my progress, determining my ability to accomplish my weekly goals and daily tasks (Walden University, n.d). I will check each goal weekly and task daily on the timetable upon completion and attaining the set objective. Resources Required

My study plan will utilize specific resources to accomplish the set objectives. I will require the ‘Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certification Review, which will guide me throughout the course. During my clinical hours, I will also use the DSM-5 pocket guide for children and adolescents to diagnose and design interventions for my patients (Hilt & Nussbaum, 2016). I have a strong bond with my colleagues and will use a study group utilizing Microsoft Teams and Zoom to conduct discussions during this course. I will also use a weekly planner to guide me toward accomplishing set goals and tasks. Moreover, I will utilize recommended books and resources for this course. I will also use an Exam Prep App on my iPhone to take tests and quizzes as I practice for my national certification exam. Conclusion

While I possess skills and competency in pharmacology and physical assessment of adult patients, I should improve my knowledge and confidence while dealing with children and adolescents.
