4. Fever, often accompanied by sweating or chills
5. Fatigue and weakness
6. Rapid breathing

8. Confusion (especially in older adults)

Treatment for community-acquired pneumonia depends on the severity of the infection and the suspected causative organism. It often involves the use of antibiotics for bacterial infections or antiviral medications for viral infections. Supportive care, such as rest, fluids, and over-the-counter pain relievers, may also be recommended to alleviate symptoms.

Prevention of CAP includes:

1. Vaccination: Vaccines are available for certain bacteria that commonly cause pneumonia, such as the pneumococcal vaccine and the Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) vaccine. Annual influenza vaccination is also recommended to prevent viral pneumonia.
2. Good hygiene practices: Regular handwashing, avoiding close contact with individuals who have respiratory infections, and covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing can help reduce the risk of transmission.
